The psx version of game can be run with emulator at hd resolution with smoth background (epsxe pete's opengl2 plugin) but the 3d quality of psx engine is very low and polygons wobble as they were in the middle of the sea, moreover the background image presents artifacts that are't presents in the original not emulated game, I think the best version of re2 is the dreamcast release (and soucenext for pc) because it run with all special contenent and and a good balanced and stable graphic (640x480 in vga mode) but unfortunaly it can't be emulated with NullDC (to run it in hd) because it is based on WinCE code. Then there's still one last mistery around the sourcenext edition, since around the web I have found screenshots at a very high resolution. The gamecube version seems a viable option and in that case i would have to emulate (and im not certain i could emulate a cube on my current rig, which is kind of old compared to the most recent ones, but maybe RE2 wont take a lot of resources).

Gathering more informations I enlightened myself with the facts that the dreamcast version is actually a port of the pc release (which is based on its own on the psx release) so I won't try my chances around that one because it will look like s**t. On its own sourcenext edition is fairly playable by gameplay, but I am looking mostly to satisfy my aestethical need, to see those old-school textures highly detailed and get what my eyes struggled to see for almost a decade while playing on the psx on a cable tv. Unfortunately, I suppose these are minor emulation problems that could not be avoided. In example: you can mostly notice that when the character (leon or claire) is standing by, breathing. So far, I also tried the american dual shock edition for EpsењЋ 1.8.0, (a psx emulator, in case you do not know) let me say something about that one: while the background resolutions and antialiasing features are a lot better compared to the sourcenext edition, the character polygons suffer a weird 'swapping' bug which makes various parts of the character's body to move all around the model, like if they're having difficulties finding (and remaining) in their position.

that because, as we all know, the engine won't allow higher resolutions at full screen. The sourcenext jap version of the game is quite interesting but pretty much poor when it comes to graphics.

So, as the thread title states, I'm looking forward for the best option to play Residentevil 2 aesthetically speaking.
